Business wants to know what they get for sinking millions of bucks into IT, and IT wants to prove that they are worth the money given to them. The debate starts when the return on investment and productivity of the IT department must be proven on the financial statements. In essence the core of this debate is to prove the performance of the IT department and to show that business gets a proper return on their investment.

Within minutes I had a full functioning cloud infrastructure with virtual machines, databases, load balancing and auto scaling. I had an exact price of what it will cost me, with the ability to factor in growth cost, and options available for growing and scaling. Read more…

Anonymity vs Privacy vs Security

The last couple of months Internet security has been making headlines thanks to a hacker group by the name of Lulzsec. Most prominently are their attacks on Sony which caused the PSN (PlayStation Network) to be offline for a month. The group claims that it is for the laughs and they are doing the world a favour by showing the vulnerabilities that exist in systems. They have a huge following on Twitter (187,000 at last count) and there is a lot of reaction on their exploits, mostly negative though. One thing that they do highlight however is that Internet security is still lacking and more active measures need to be taken.

Weather forecast

So what will the weather be like going forward, cloudy with rain or cloudy with sunshine? The fact is that the cloud is going to change things, but to what extend and what will the results be? What is the world going to be like after the cloud, but more importantly, how are we going to get there? Today I was astounded to meet someone working in the IT industry, a decision maker that did not know what the cloud is. And this person is working at a big enterprise. That is leading me to this question, how are we going to get there, because I think that is going to determine what we are going to have after the storm.
